We moved into our property about 6 months back and asked our Energy provider to switch the meters from Economy 7 to standard meter because we have gas central heating etc.

When they came in to complete the work they refused to, due to one of the components had asbestos within it.

They then organized for a different team to come in and remove it but they had issues regarding the curb side of the wiring and said it could only be completed by doing a "live" removal which they were not allowed to complete.

Then I heard nothing from either the GE or Energy provider so I followed up with our Energy provider and they are now stating it is the owners responsibility to have this box switched.

Please take a look at the pic and it is the item on the left in question.

Are they correct in this assumption.

kick up a fuss with your DNO they dont like sorting things unless there is smoke pouring from things, but it is their responsibility.

What's that got to do with changing the meter for a single rate E7 meter though? they can do that without touching the incoming head if they so desire.

But I agree it needs updating, and it's the DNO's property so only them, or their appointed contractor can touch it.

It is their board [chipboard]

It is their cut-out

It is their meter

it is their problem

It will [i think] be a rewirable fuse with an asbestos heat shield behind it

They obviously had no problem when they fitted the present meter as it ain't that old

Ring them up, act thick...tell them you can sometimes smell burning and it is coming from their cut out...and it is getting worse and more frequent

Stress the 'sometimes smell burning' element of this deceipt...otherwise when then stroll up, if it isn't smouldering they will be off quicker than Mr Glitter at home time

and whilst they are there get them to sort out the totally wrong BS951 earth clamp on the cable sheath as well............. :coat

they will probably say its a DIY attempt at TNS, and they can only have TT. in which case, then definately cannot leave that metallic service head there

in fact, that head may not even be earthed at all - i cant see the earth cable going into or onto the enclosure, and the end of the cable is probably enclosed in pitch and isolated from the metallic case

Again , the old story of the DNOs shirking their responsibility .

Owners responsibility to change the cast iron cut-out is it !!!! What a joke !

And they never mentioned the crappy earth connection either . I get the immpression with DNO workforce if they can palm an awkward job off onto the next shift or hope it gets lost in their system.
