Hi,

Just wondered what downlighters you all use for bathrooms.

Just done one and customer not happy with the amount of light . Its only a 6'x6' bathroom with 4 DL's and ive used 35W 240V IP rated for bathrooms but the light output is poo so am going to change them tomorrow.

BTW they are 235 cm so outside the zones all RCD protected

Any suggestions appreciated but theyve got to be brushed chrome finish.

Thanks

Matty,

Building regs state that you shouldn't allow moisture rich air into the loft space so IMHO that not only means fans to vent outside but that if D/Ls are installed that they should be IP rated

Cheers noz. The fan is extracting out the pitched roof but have seen many that are extracted into the loft which can't be good.

What downlights do you normally use in bathrooms mate?

Cheera

I don't normally do downlights unless the customer insists on them:O and then it's whatever the wholesaler has in stock,,, usually Click or iCage ones IIRC

I normally fit 28W 2D fittings, much more light for your customers money;) ;)

I hate downlighters. The most energy inefficient sort of lighting known to man.

So the bathroom you have just fitted, has 140W of lighting, and it's too dark.

I have one of these 60w BC Opal Glass Sphere Light Fitting in my bathroom that's a LOT bigger than 6 foot square, with an 18W low energy lamp, and it gives plenty of light.

When are people going to realise that downlighters are so inefficient, and you need so many watts of light to get decent illumination?

With regard to zones, my 2.4M ceiling height is outside prescribed zones, but I would never ever entertain a non IP rated fitting above bath or a shower, even if the ceiling height says it's outside prescribed zones.

I have 4 snaplite 50 watt low voltage in my bathroom and its a lot bigger than 6 x 6 probably nearly twice that and its very bright. I have always thought mains halogens don't give the same output as low voltage.

They dont. A 50W GU10 gives 40% less light than a 50W MR16.

Due to the current changes in quality & price of LED lamps we are sticking to GU10 types rather than purpose made all in one LED fittings

its all a con we fitted over 300 LED down light last month..... and out of that 300 gues how many didnt work? and they said they have a 10year gurenteeee

????????

I always fit 12volt down lighters in bathroom/shower etc.....

The light given off is a better colour render (approx 4000k) than the GU10 type

Also i find that if i'm fitting down lighters then I'm fitting an in-line fan/light

Bathroom and Shower Extractor Fans

which is 12volts any-ways

bloody old thread !!!!!!

Ban the BC 100 watt bulb stick in 6 x Gu10's equals 300watts

Now that's what I call saving the planet ?????????? Where's the sense politicians
