Pity these things are so bloody expensive, lets you use new style 18V Li-ion batteries on your old Nicad/NimH Makita drills.

I have a similar unit for my dewalt. EVERYTHING I have is the old style battery apart from my SDS and a Combi. These both have 4Ah batteries so,when my old Lithium batts pack up,I can still use all my other stuff all for the outlay of about £30

suits me!

as and when my old stuff dies it will get replaced with the new battery style...but there is a lot

Ive not long got myself a new Makita with a pair of 5a/h batts as my old Milwaukee (6-7 years old) has pretty much died. What did it for me was the fact that the trigger is playing up as well as the batteries have died (one totally dead, the other on its way)

I have to say, theres nothing like using a new tool to make you realise how knackered your old one was. Total revelation. I hadn't even realised the brake on the Milwaukee was bust, just got used to driving accordingly.

I worked out what I wanted and shopped around Deke, ended up buying the drill body, batts, and case all from diff suppliers, but ended up saving myself quite a few quid that way.

Also - the 5 a/H batts - oh my, I've been running this drill for a couple weeks now, haven't had to charge one yet

Bunch of Polish builders I was working next too few weeks ago had brand new Milwaukee everything, with 9 a/h batteries. 9!

Same company though... TTI.

All well and good saying look 9ah, but as mentioned in the above Canadian vejeo it's about the quality of the cells and the chemistry of that cell that will predict its lifespan.

So you will get more bang for your buck onsite but the lifetime of the battery will have a shorter overall life span and at £120 they aren't cheap to replace.

Also chargers are pretty fast these days think mine with do a 4ah in under 30mins.

My BiL has the old blue 18V AEG cordless drill from when they were selling them all off on good deals before they went "orange". It's a real beast.

I see in Homebase the other day £105 for a 5Ah genuine battery!
