Not to rain on anyones parade, but how does this door step selling thing affect this kind of thing?

http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/before_you_buy/be_aware_of/doorstep-selling

If you read the above page you will see that if you have to get them to sign a contract with a cooling off period! the way I read it (ages ago) I thought that it said that you can start work before the 7 days, but that they must sign to waive the cooling off period.. and if there is no contract, then they could be well within their rights to not pay??

Doorstep selling is still doorstep selling. I think the bit you are misreading means if you are visited by a doorstep seller then it doesn;t matter whether you invite them in or not. It doesn;t apply to me, and I assume you, and anyone else who doesn;t do doorstep selling.

ETA: Dunno though, just read it again and it does read that way. Don;t think it does apply though.

It most definitely applies to you Lurch!

Misleading article there.

I am aware, and have mentioned on a few occasions, that without a contract you haven;t got a leg to stand on, in fact you're in a worse place than if you are on the wrong side of a decent contract.

we get em over here as well i just got 500 outstanding for 8 months ,after i moved interstate i thought it was gone i downloaded a letter from a collection agency on the net [ all legit ] gave here a call sent the letter ,said it was out of my hands and fortunately i got paid good luck

I have that kitchen fitter not paying me from that job before Christmas, I was there on Christmas Eve at 7PM wiring the cooker 'cos he said it was a plug-in jobby and it wasn't. Customer is sueing them for bad workmanship , I'll be suing for non payment , but I won't be dashing round there to test and certify it , bugger that for a game .
I think I would be as you have to notify all jobs within 25 days to labc and thats getting a bit close now isnt it? Also without testing, how can you prove you didn't leave the place in a dangerose state?

Ian.

I've only had one non payer.

It went on for months stating "I've posted a cheque" or "I'll transfer it to you bank tonight"

Of course each time he stated he would pay, you then have to wait a few days to see if he does.

Eventually I lost patience. I phoned the customer, who was out so I left a message on his answerphone, stating if I had not received payment by Friday, I would hand the matter over to a debt collection agency.

He paid that evening.

Best of luck.
