A sparky friend of mine had the same problem at somebodys house. changed the battery, and then when that did not work he changed the detector, but the beeping carried on. turned out to be a detector in a draw in spare room that was beeping. :^O

By any chance are they the AICO (Ei Proffesional) ones?came across some that would constantly bleep. Had to replace them in the end!
Same here.

Also they are effected by paint fumes & dust build up.

I'd say pretty much all of the new ones that I have installed (EI), have beeped - but they have alll stopped beeping on their own.

EI ones have never been a problem although had to replace some of the oblong shaped ones for a customer these had the lithium cells. BRK ones have had problems with them although not fitted by me. I have a customer with some of the screwfix ones these are going to need replacing and they have only been in three years not fitted by me though.

There's an article about this problem in this month's Electrical Wholesaler.

I use Aico, but find that when Test button is used this disables alarm for 10 mins and it will not trigger with smoke test.

So now Smoke test FIRST then check with test button, double bleeps after 10 mins to indicate back to normal.

Maybe other Alarms bleep during time delay?
