I'm failing to see the problem. The board is perfectly serviceable and protective devices along with rcbo pods are readily available. 


Yeah, but at sky high prices, there are very few existing cirucits in the board, and it sounds like he's adding quite a few as part of his work. The board is already 20 years old and yeah its servicable, but in another 10 years, will parts still be available? probably cost even more if they are.

It doens't make sense IMHO to keep obselete equipment to supply mostly new cirucits, of course if it was nearly fully loaded with existing cirucits, it'd be different

Whilst the enclosure may be obsolete Eaton still provide circuit protection for them and if they are not willing to upgrade it then cost isn't really the OPs problem it is what it is.
