Some weeks ago I posted that some council employed, deskbound, paper pushing wazzuk had refused to renew my wife's Blue Badge due to cut backs.

You can't visit this place and they never answer the phone except to say that the bloke you want is in a meeting . Asked local councillor who did sod all .

Finally ,to shut us up I think, they are renewing it !!

I don't think they know how much these things help disabled people.

Thanks for the update, Mate.

Glad they saw sense.

Spot Deke mate, well done for keeping the pressure up & getting the correct result.

Why should you have to fight for somethink that your entiled to.

It shouldn't be a case of haveing to renew it should be done automatically if your wife is disabled.

And how do they know to automatically give them out, and to whom?

Unless some kind of miracle has happened if said person is deemed to be disable today then one would take it as being disable this time next year after all they do stringent tests to justify having a badge to begin with,

and if you have been having the disabled badge some number of years then it should be taken as a yearly renewal.

Thats how i see it my own opinion.

Well your opinion is fine, however it is not based on any facts which makes it nonsense. I see what you're getting at, but not all disabilities are permanent, hence the renewal. As you say, you need to apply in the first place so it's not entirely automatic anyway.

As Lurch says , not all disabilities are permanent , broken leg say, hence the renewal every 3 years. Annoying part was its a just a blanket refusal , cut backs , so the Doctor writes a letter (

And don't start me on certain members of B,ham's population who just park in the spaces withoout giving toss. Grrr.
Major bug bear with me ppl parking in disabled park bays when ****all wrong with them.

Side note I actually got failed on West Mids Police entrance exam based scenario with regards to able bodied ppl parking in disabled bay, basically I didn't apologise for the security guard give somebody grief for parking in it I was playing the part of the head of security (got marked 1 D out of 4 different scenarios all others were A's & B's) so i I was deemed and none compliant for race and diversity.

Healthy able bodied people who spitefully use disabled parking spaces or blag the blue badge pass off a vulnerable relative should have there legs broken. Then they may realise what difficulties disabled people endure and why the disabled spaces were put there in the first place!!!!

Do most of the disabled people really deserve a badge ?

Example 1,

On a recent job in The city of London a labourer would drive 4 of his other mates in every day and park right outside the job in a disabled bay, and display his blue badge. For weeks i watched this happening along with seeing the labourer digging holes, carrying 8x4 sheets of ply, carrying rubble bags down and cement bags up ladders etc. I asked one of the guys he brought in how he gets away with the blue badge to be told 'He only has one leg, the others a falsie'

Now this labourer was 100% fitter than me, should he have a blue badge.

Example 2,

My colleague had major cancer surgery 1 year ago and is now back at work but has recently been given a blue badge, to be referred in 3 years. He now can drive and park in the congestion zone for free. Should he have a blue badge ?

I agree with you Slips - both cases shouldn't have one.

Did you read Deke's original thread? There should be no doubt in his missus' case that she was entitled to one.

I tried to nail the jobsworth as to what the official criteria was for issuing a badge but he wouldn't say other than "the disability must be life threatening" which is nonsense really . I would guess that Stephen Hawking has one and he's still around , this jobsworth would be saying if you don't die soon we're taking your badge off you.

I'd say the builder is taking the pi$$ , not prepared to comment on the other case though.

I'd say no, he can walk without pain and without sticks and do a days work on a building job so I'd say he doesn't need a badge .

I think if he went for assessment they wouldn't renew unless he is a good actor.
