Hi all it's day 4-5 of the new year not smoking challenge for me and I'm finding it pretty hard!! Has anybody else had this struggle or going though now as well?? Say what you think guys!headbangheadbangheadbangheadbang

well firstly good on ya for trying and I truly hope you succeed. Smoking has to be the est habit to kick. Make sure you let all the smokers you know not to light up around you or offer you one. Put the amount you spend every day in a pot and see it mount up - that alone is a good incentive!

I did this 10 years ago, around the same time of year. I was on around 20-30 a day. I haven't had a cigarette since. It was tough at first, really tough. But it gets easier, and after a few weeks, you realise that if you were to have a ***, you'd really be letting yourself down, so that keeps you going too. Avoiding booze at first might help, as I found they went hand in hand.

I lost my mum at 57 to emphysema, which was bought on by 40 years of smoking. It's not a nice way to go, and that was enough encouragement for me to stop (and a bit of ear-bashing from the OH).

Good luck mate, one day at a time!

I am trying to give up unhealthy food and do more exercise not as easy as it sounds.... however I started using Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com last april and have lost 25lbs so far with about another 14 to go.. You just log your food and exercise and it kind of motivates you. If anyone does log on (free) you can friend me - same username

Sorry, Smilers, after reading waynehayes post, mine was a little light hearted.

I have never smoked.

I consider myself one of the lucky ones, that is why I had no problems giving up!

I have lost both my parents, and both my parents in law to smoking as well as many other relatives & my brother in law.

I have loads of friends who smoke and many who have given up and many who have failed.

It is not easy, and I wish you luck, I hope that you can live your dreams.

Well done Rev keep it up you will get there no doubt!

Wayne I don't think there is anything anybody could say to you other than sorry for your loss.

I wish everybody luck with whatever you have decided to Change in your life this year! Maybe we can keep this thread going throughout the year and see where we end up in December? I will leave this to the forces that be to decide if that would be appropriate.

Maybe just a progress update as the months go on ?

Not only do we have years of electrical knowledge but we also have a lot of years life experience

Good luck with the Vino canoe boy 1-2 glasses won't hurt I'm sure !! :slap

Hopefully you'll not have too much of a problem giving up, but if you do relapse then don't write off hypnotherapy, Mrs Noz had 2 sessions about 15 years and then didn't smoke for a good 12 months.. Unfortunately she can get quite stressed (I don't help matters;)) and she did start back up:(

After the first session she came out and tried to have a ***,,, she nearly threw up!

I gave up about 10 years ago with hypnotherapy. I had always loved smoking and never wanted to give up until I decided to have a child. I wanted to give up before I got pregnant so I went to a hypnotherapist and 90 mins (and lots of money) later, that was it - I had given up. I carried my cigarettes around with me for a week because I didn't believe I wouldn't smoke.

I'd recommend it to anyone.

As Sprocket says , the first week is the hardest but you must beat it , like Slidegrinder I've lost relatives to it and thought I was joining them some years back, thats why I quit .

You are now a non-smoker , you don't smoke anymore , you don't need them .

About once every hour the craving gnaws at you , so you tackle it head on ,every hour , try to do something . In a couple of days its not so often, keep going.

If , as said you have gone for a week then you have it cracked .

Your next target is another week and thats how you need to go , small steps at a time .

I did the same as Ali , had my last packet with me for weeks till they were flat and squashed and my mate threw them away.

It's not at all expensive Ali,, just think of how much healthier you and those around you are now,,,, and the money you you will have saved over the past 10 years and future years is a huge amount

Hi,

In August 10 I tried champix ans failed miserably:coat

In desperation i went to a hypnotherapist to rid myself of a 30 year habit.....Walked out cured:C

I dont know what happened but here I am now, free and it feels wonderful to be not sitting thinking of the next fix in the rain!

And my break times are much longer these days as I am not rushing for a ***.

However, I put on 2 stone and was no stick insect to start with! I joined weigh****chers in July and have lost nearly 2 stone. To be fair i have been sparking instead of teaching so am sure this has helped....

good two shoes, me then:x

Try this book it has a remarkable and easy way of releasing you from your mental addiction to cigarettes. I have used it successfully and so have a lot of people I know. Good luck.

Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking: Be a Happy Non-smoker for the Rest of Your Life: Amazon.co.uk: Allen Carr: 9780141039404: Books

It will be fours Years next Month that Mrs Admin Gave up smoking.

Here's to here. :Salute :Applaud

Here's to all those who have successfully quit. :Salute :Applaud

I tried a year ago - lasted a whole week and started back, saying that I would cut them down gradually, and then give up - I haven't, I smoked MORE!!!

I don't smoke in my house or in front of my children, never have (neither did Mrs Admin when she smoked).

My little Admins have been asking/telling me to quit for quite some time, and I AM going to do it THIS YEAR! Next month?

I hope u get there Ad it certainly is not easy- just pick a date choose your poison eg. Patch, hypno or plain old will power and go for it I'm hoping it gets easier as the days go by but it has not started to get easy yet !

Forgot to mention the extra eating problem Smiley but often a drink of water when you want a *** can help, just keep fighting , you're a non smoker now .

AND YOU ADMIN are next !!!!

I have tried everything, and failed! I have smoked since I was about 14, I am now in my 50's. I did give up for a month, with the help of Zyban, but quickly reverted to the old ways. Good luck it is hard, and one day I hope to come onto the forum and post that I am on day 5 of a no smoking plan.

Well done so far, you may inspire me to quit once and for all. After all I am the only smoker in my company.
