Mrs sprocketflup used the Alan carr ("ooooh arent i gay?" surely not the same Alan carr???) book and successfully stopped whereas it didnt work for me. Nor did hypnotherapy, some folk just dont have the type of brain that can be hypnotised and apparently Im one of them.

i tried patches and gum and neither worked for me. What did work tho was really analysing what it was that i was addicted to, and for me it was the feel or thrill of the smoke going down my neck, I wasnt too bothered about nicotene or not which was why the nicotene substitutes hadnt worked. IOnce id figured what it was I was able to find a substitute in sips of ice cold water and/or a Nicorette Inhaler which I used for a week or so and that was that.

One thing i will say tho that I truly beleive, YOU HAVE TO WANT TO STOP. If you only might like to stop, it wont happen, so may aswell not waste your time

A good friend of mine who had smoked for 30+ years just decided one day to stop, so he did, and has never smoked since!

Probably 2 years now, even though many of those around him still do, his Mrs, kids etc.

Unbelievable almost!

A new advert came on TV tonight about a free help kit for those who want to give up smoking, they are available free from participating chemists.

my father did that, amazing. My stepdad tried a different aproach which worked for him, we went on holiday for a week to Blackpool, he took 400 **** with him and made himself smoke as many as he could one after the other until he was physically sick, after that he could never look one in the eye again :)

Worked for him, but like they say, One mans meat and all that

My Mum did that, pure will power, after years of smoking B&H.

Only in England Manator. :(

Sprocket is exactly right there ... you must WANT to stop , if you do you will if you don't you won't .......Eh!! ?

I was working with a good mate many years ago on a rewire, we both smoked and were in the garage , the customer's little lad came through , then we heard him say to his dad , " I just breathed in the smoke , will I die now?"

My mate chucked his **** in the bin there and then and never smoked again.

Being diabetic i have enough to cope with without smoking as well and also my dad being a heavy smoker and constantly coughing his guts up was enough to put me off smoking.

Well it's day 7 and I'm still not smoking!! Woop woop!!

But a have an itchy skin feeling a lot and I'm struggling to get to sleep at night as well it took me about 1 hour from getting into bed to head down last night.

Has anybody else experienced anything like this ?

Cheers

There are quite a few side effects , Smiley, affecting people differently I suppose. 7 days is great !!!

Been a while now so I don't know about not getting to sleep .

I can remember absent mindedly "smoking " the pencil at work.

Walking away if others lit up.

Noticing how many **** are lit in the older films on TV and wanting to join them!!

Kept checking that I still had my last packet.

Sense of smell improved.

Sense of taste improved ( Hence weight gain if not carefull)

After a while I think you sleep better because you don't wake up seeking your first one of the day.

Tried the patches but they gave me itchey skin , quite a reaction under the patch so stopped them and went cold turkey.

It helped with the sparks I work with a lot also giving up with me.

Strangely:-

Hairs re-appeared up my nose and on my knees !!!!
