Hello to all, just found this site completely by accident when looking for something else - that google has a lot to answer for... ; O)

I'm looking to update my old C&G certs (16th Edition) with a view to teaching Elec Installation amongst other things. Will give an intro here and if anyone can then push me towards any particularly relevant threads I'll be eternally grateful. Apologies if it seems a bit long to read but go on..give it a go.

Left school 1975, Did 1yr block release - basic electrical and mechanical engineering, then over 3 years did the old A, B & C certs, total 7 years including 4yr apprenticeship.

Made redundant end of 1982 and spent whole of 1983 retraining for computer maintenance. In comp maint for 22 years, big companies inc IBM, Hitachi etc right up until 2006.

Got pi$$ed with same old same old.. so started up my own property-related company, was riding high till this bl00dy crunch thing happened, now I'm at stage where I want to consolidate what I have and use my experience to teach others (did some teaching to peer groups when in IT). Have chucked the towel in and on Job Seekers Allowance since last week.

JSA has allowed me to start on Further Education route part-time to get basic teaching qualification (at no cost), so my aim after that is to be able to wear two teaching hats (ICT and Electrical Installation). To do this I need to get some recognised qualifications in IT as despite 22 years experience have nothing formal on paper for it - which I've also just started to put into place..and need to get my C&G 'C Cert' complemented with the 17th Edition stuff...which brings me to here.. looking to do these short courses..

Welcome Growler, there are a good bunch here who are more than willing to pass on any advise they may have. I believe the Google search may have been a positive accident.

Hello to all, just found this site completely by accident when looking for something else - that google has a lot to answer for... ; O) Q1 - does anyone know if prices and course durations sound about right?

Q2 - will I be able to get help via govt funding?

Q3 - should I post this up in a different thread?

Q4 - would you buy a second-hand car off this man?

All answers appreciated
Welcome Growler....

This forums got a lot to answer for as well!!! ]:) ] :)

hmm.....

I suspect the Midlands/Brummy + 30mile radius members..

may be able to give the Welsh contingent a run for their money soon..

Calling Sandra/Badge/Ext et al Midlanders out there...

Q1 - does anyone know if prices and course durations sound about right?

You could try checking local college websites for their course costs as a comparison?

Q2 - will I be able to get help via govt funding?

Dunno?

Q3 - should I post this up in a different thread?

I wouldn't bother now its here! :)

Q4 - would you buy a second-hand car off this man?

I think The Lads and Lasses have taken over the numbers of Welsh peeps on here, a long time ago, Specs.

The Midlands covers a HUGE area. :D
