Bt Infinity Do I Need This ?

Hi guys ,

Another question from a dummy .

I'm with BT , they are offering to upgrade me to  BT Infinity fibre optic broadband  at no extra charge and no cgange to my terms.

An apointment has to be booked for their engineers to alter some wiring inside property .  

Q.  Is this a good thing ?

Q. Is it a good system?

Q Do I need it ?    

Q  Are they dumping the present system anyway , ( Which works well for me)

It will never be available on my estate due to builders going bust and new builders overlooking ducting for copper to fibre.

Make sure you understand what your being offered, we got Infiniti package before Xmas and the kids said it was no different, plus the overall bill shot up too after we were promised if we followed their advice we would be reducing our bills, it's taken till now to get them to sort this out, the porn is superb but then I'm older, I love that freeze frame, picture jumping and the buffering just ads to the anticipation.......... So I'm told

Had infinity for ages, although I get higher speeds its not really great for gaming & sometimes streaming video. Try to get unlimeted as I'm around 250/300gb a month, I've pretty much stopped watching normal telly.

BT been running adverts all last month saying all new tariffs unlimited, not throttled, no fair usage policy.

My boy used to play Pro Cod 4 and practised every night, doing 130gb a month, for that reason I moved to BT Business Broadband.

Currently get 10 down and 1 up, streaming Sky on demand works fine, the boy's retired now due to uni.

Games is definitely the killer on bandwidth I've stopped playing battlefield 3 so I wonder what it's like.

Also worth noting that we live in the 1900's over here and still have telephone poles and there is quite a lot of copper between me and the local junction box, this may attribute to the poop latency at times.

That's all I used to get from boy, this ping is rubbish too much lag, so we had auto-leaving switched off at the exchange, we get around 23ms so not bad.

The teams he played for like Cooler Master all had their own servers, but from here to there was usually the issue.

Infinity is great.

The boy can play online Xbox/ PS3 games and watch iPad tv, daughter can watch Bbc iplayer cbeebies on smart tv, misses can watch tv on tablet and surf tinternet on phone, while I can watch sky go history channel on imac while I surf multiple web pages on MacBook Pro as my iPhone pings when emails arrive.

No lag for any of us, while all using our devices

Best of all we are all in different rooms and very happy about it.

The bottom line is this...

if you are currently running your internet via a standard BT phone line  (ADSL modem and/or router)

and you are given an option to go to fiber optic broadband at negligible extra cost..

then you need to go with the fiber IMHO....

Whether its BT-Virgin-Or someone else....

'Fiber' beats 'copper twin ADSL'....

we are on a basic Virgin media package with the phone & Broadband..

Recent speed test showed as ..

30.5 download  1.7 upload & 22ms delay

and I am cheaper than my old Phone + broadband costs..
