My main  wholesaler is Denmans , local , good discounts , staff friendly & excellent to deal with .

Cable carp .

They now sell this Turkish stuff , the meter tails are as hard as iron & I notice today , 2nd fixing , the 2,5 solid is hard too , usable but bloody hard .    All the usual   BS  & BASEC  stuff .   I spoke to their head office who assured me all their cable is sourced from BASEC suppliers ,  but I  need to be looking for some Doncaster etc.   What ever happened to BICC  & AEI ?

Anyone  else find this problem ?

Ran out on a job, only needed about another metre FFS! Forced to go CEF and I got this horrible dark grey stuff that smells plasticky, really hard and not much chalk in it. I can't remember the brand will check tomorrow....

:)

I signed up for an account with Denmans and their sales guy has been calling me each week to sell me loads of cable at virtually cost price...well thats what he said.

Glad now i didnt take up his offer.

I used to love AEI cables.

I used to prefer to stick to branded cables but some of the no-name drums of BASEC cable have been OK. I have had some CCC cable recently that is wound so tight on the drum that it will not uncoil (completely useless for surface clipping) and is often pulled over the ends of the reel between the cable and cardboard ends so it is kinked and distorted.

Draka used to be nice cable, nowhere seems to stock that anymore, used to love Pirelli cables back in the day (now Prysmian) and would say I have had no trouble with their stuff recently. Luckily the local Eddys is a stockist, & the Screwfix prices aren't outrageous if not.

AEI have priced themselves out of the domestic market from what I have heard, they wanted something silly like £70+VAT for a 100m reel of 2.5 T+E, and thats what they were wanting to charge wholesalers, JLO brand cable seems to be sourced by most wholesalers but is getting returned back due to poor construction.
