OP how would you have done this in your industrial arena?

Supply(Inc protective device) -> Switch(or multiple switch options/paths) -> Load -> Back to supply.

How does it change, due to the building or size of cables ?

Some of them were made by and stamped into the steelwork “Octopus”

I wonder if they were used so a firm could do the "American"   install  system  where a "Wireman "  pulls cable in but doesn't do connecting .

Strictly speaking there should only be ONE cable per gland unless the gland is designed for two cables. Also the rubber seal inside the glands should have OVAL  holes not round ones.
