Can this be used to control a cooker plate?

Not quite the same as spuring off the 'RM' to the RCD FCU though is it?

 
Why not put a separate RCD next to the consumer unit and this will benefit the customer with improved safety for all sockets on that ring main cct. Then spur off ring with 20amp dp switch to socket outlet for cooker.

 
Thanks for that suggestion Robin. I did think of that, but there's so little space around the current CU and it's in a cramped cupboard under the stairs, I thought that would be a nightmare!

 
I don't believe I've ever come across accessories that can butt up against each other, so as the cables don't have to jump a gap to reach the next back box.
so your incapable of putting 2 accessories next to each other, close enough so the gap is minimal.

and im guessing that your one of those 'there is a gap of 1mm between that socket & that RCD spur. maybe i will put a nail though there to hang this picture'
