Been to look at one of my letting agent jobs this morning.

A Mira Zest shower that won't turn off (well it will but sometimes takes several minutes for the water to stop after you turn it off)

Now in the case of clearly identifiable electrical faults I will replace parts, but this looks to me like a mechanical problem within the water flow valve.

Are spare parts available or is it serviceable by stripping it down and cleaning the mechanism internally?

Or am I best just to recommend a new shower?

Spares are available...

e.g..

These people are up your side of the border! ; \

I have used them in the past with no problems. :D

its all a question of the cost of the part you need & labour to fit it

Cost of new shower & replacement labour costs.

Also taking into account the age of the shower.. how much realistic life it has left in it.

The initial purchase price of a typical Mira & a generally good lifespan means quite often a repair is an economically viable option....

With some of the cheaper models, (e.g. basic B&Q/Wickes/Homebase

Some showers have a timed shut down, switch off elements first but keep water running to cool of, could this model be one?

I always think it can be a false economy repairing. The parts are never that cheap and a new 8.5kw can be had for

" I've had this broom for years and it's only had 4 handles and 2 new heads!!!"
Too right Trigger! Del Boy will see you down the pub later with another new handle.

Not in the sense that it's an electronic function. Rather this is just some mechanical function.

As soon as you turn it "off" some sort of dampened plunger mechanism is supposed to slowly release making the water turn off after a few seconds, but that mechanism seems jammed and usually now sticks. The only reliable cure it to replace that part, which means the whole of the water valve. I'll look up the cost before making a decision. At the end of the day it's the landlords decision to replace or repair.

If it comes to a new shower, I would fit a Wickes own brand, which are pretty cheap, but underneath the Wickes brand they are Triton showers inside, and for a lot less than buying one branded as Triton.

They seem reliable, and they have good spare parts availability.
