Hi, got building control coming round tomorrow and below is the EIC, can you see any errors or anything you would change? Also what does building control actually do when they come round and what do i need to take to the job; city+guilds? insurance certificates? thanks

ive had to upload the photos upside down for them to load the correct way up lol!

When I changed a consumer unit prior to joining a scam provider when the building control came round all they did was look at the new consumer unit, say ok and off he went. Most building inspectors don't know anything about electrical installation and don't want to get involved because its not their area of expertise. I wouldn't worry about the visit, take the EIC with you if you have it. DId you send a copy to building control?

its a little one bed bungalow and has no fans at all. no i didnt send them a copy but il take a copy tomorrow, wasnt sure if they were going to test it all or what. also do i need to put a 'circuit chart' with the consumer unit? thanks for all help

Hi mate,

A couple of things I noticed.

Where it asks for 'Instruments' at the top of the Schedule of Test Results', it's the serial numbers that are required, not the model:D

On the top of the EIC, I would have selected 'Alteration to an existing installation' , rather than 'New Installation'.

Also, the 'Comments on existing installation' - none??

You must have noticed something wrong:D

Where to start???

This is so you can fill out the forms correctly, not to have a go;)

Page 1.

I'd probably be a bit more descriptive of what you have done.. e.g. "CU change inc. upgrade of tails, main earth and bonding to gas & water"

and then in the limitations.. CU change only!

Also if it is only a CU change it's only an alteration

Page 2 is fine

Page 3 (schedule of inspections)... are there really some "cables incorporating earthed armour or sheath......."

Page 4

On the test equipment bit you need to put the instruments serial number

In the Overcurrent protection TYPE box you'd put BS 3036 (rewireables), BS 1361(cartridge fuse), BS 88 (cartridge fuse), BS 3871 (old MCB), BS EN 60898 (MCB) or BS EN 61009..... you could put "B32" etc in the rating box

I'd also strike through the boxes & lines that you are not using..

HTH

on shed of test results i would have put full address of where work was carried out not just in the porch, then maybe write in the porch in comments box

wayne

edit:

also main switch is 60947-3 (i got picked up on this in my elecsa assesment)

Agree with ADS, Noz & Monkey...

Plus:

test results - this MAY be contentious but the RCDs shouldn`t have a line at all - they aren`t circuits.

Don`t leave blank lines or boxes anywhere.

You`ve STATED that the supply fuse is 60A. Did you see it? if not, append the letters "NV" (for Not Verified) after the "60".

Unless you`ve omitted showing it; I can`t see a serial no. to the cert.

I saw the "1 of" on the last photo - I assume you`ve filled this in for all 4?

n.b. Don`t be disheartened by the comments - I`ve seen MUCH worse left with customers........

KME

they were 16mm tails and used original which were there. Ring continuity is 0.70. Had building inspector round today and i am still wondering what the

also the bathroom light didnt have a earth at the job, why would this be and is it ok? i could tell is was a reasonably old light but everyother light had cpc so was but confused

Here goes

1.....First thing i noticed was the Zs values given are bang on ie R1R2 + Ze this makes me think you havenot measured and just calculated.

2....You can put the 5x results in the "other" column but obviously write 5x at the top

3....Serial numbers req for meter

4....Are the luminaires vulnerable in a bungalow, a florry is ok (if it dunt have an electronic starter or gear tray)

5....Presence of diagrams and cct charts. Is there a technical diagram and chart on site?

6...Routing of cables in prescribed zones. Are you sure? if not put LIM

7....Theres no garage so where is the SWA

8....Max demand....A cooker and shower on at the same time...cud this be more than 50? its your call

9....60947-3

10...Alteration not a new installation

11....You have not filled in the amended to date

12...Not filled in the next inspection time

13...Spelled your name wrong( Joke )

14....Did you actually see the main fuse or did you just look at the meter rating or is it intuition.

Thats it i think

.. :coffee

If you checked the continuity of the earthing conductor and the main protective bonds its a good idea to put there ohmic value in brackets where it says connection verified

Ring continuity results?
This opened a can of worms for me - so I'm going to start something;\

I think this is a real grey area - particularly on CU swaps.

Should you be doing Ring Final Continuity tests at all?

Should these results be going on the Schedule of Test Results?

Should you even be doing R1 + R2 tests on a CU swap and recording these results?

Have a think before you rush in and answer. ;)
