Many lightning storms seems to effect this house. So far in two years 3 skye phones and two computers damaged by lightning strikes. Overhead telephone and power in rural location on a cliff top ? Is there a way to surge protect both telephone and power ? Currently use surge protectors on sockets and telephone but it a'int that pretty?

Just wondering? ; \

There are plans to have consumer units with them built in for all circuits

That was the sales speel at the trade show last year

I think in some countries its law but dont hold me to it

i thought this was going to be mentioned in amd1?

Surge protection will be in regs soon - this year i thought??? Trying to thibnk who was at NICEIC tech talk promoting this gear - mght be worth searching NICEIC website. Price was around

Surge protection is covered in the Spring 2011 (11) Issue 38 Wiring Matters from the IET.

  • SURGE PROTECTION - Guarding against damage to electronic equipment. (Page 24 through 26)
Also covered in this edition are:

  • Prefab wiring systems - key aspects of BS8488 and designers' responsibilities
  • PAT testing - We clear up some of the common causes of confusion (PAT testing is how it is listed)
  • Medical locations - Details of a new section of BS 7671 to be introduced in July
  • Fuse standards - Changes to reflect developments of low-voltage fuse standards.
I can't find this issue on the IET website - so can't link to it, as yet. :(

just got the IET mag through the post. had a quick read of it

also says something about BS1361 has been replaced by BS88-3. thats me well behind the times

Got mine today and dumped in the 4' high pile of other jouirnals I ain'nt read yet!!! :(
Just look at the pictures like I do..

no point reading anything..

involves to much brain power!

There is a very nice 13A plug on page 3!

But even better is page 4 ..

pleasant looking female using some hand operated penetration device...

It may even have repercussion action enabled!?

She is not wearing a hi-vis vest so she's probably not a working girl

Most likely just for her own personal gratification and pleasure...

But she is wearing eye protection... in-case any projectiles flies off in her face.
