would anyone buy a van on this listing?

or even CAT - D ?

personally I dont see the issue, but Im just worried about the ability to re-sell in a couple of years time,

cheap van as long as you know how to check it out IMHO,

BTW, I dont, but will be taking someone who does,.

 
Personally I would bother with one, there's that many cars for sale it worth waiting for the right one!

 
I bought a 2 year old 4x4 last year that was cat-d. Was a bit put off at first, but decided to have a butchers. So glad I did its been faultless- and it's was 4 grand cheaper than the equivalent. Not sure what will happen on resale, but not planning on selling it any time soon. There worth a look tbh, and anyhow any car you buy cat-d or not you have no idea what it's been through. You never no you might just pick up a gem like me.

 
my dads bought a Cat D write off b4, only thing wrong with it was it needed a new door as some vandals had used a bat of some kind to bash it in attempt to get into it!

new door on, they had the car for 4 years after that and never had any issues, and when sold on the person who bought it still has the car to this day, and never has any issues with it.. passes its MOT 1st time :)

CAT D's are normally repairable safely but ins companies consider them uneconomical to repair : when purchasing a CAT D its optional as to wether the insurance company require to know its previously a CAT D, each Ins company has its own set of rules n regs regarding this. Not required to notify new owners after sale of vehicle.

CAT C's Same as above, but normally applied to vehicles with chassis/axle/engine damage considered uneconomical to repair : but can be safely put back on road once repaired. Insurance companies are required to know that the vehicle has been written off at this catagory, and your are also required to notify the new owner should the vehicle be sold on after this!

Here is one for you: if a vehicle has been written off as Cat C and is subject to another insurance claim, they will not repair they will write off as CAT B

 
Little brother bought a cat d transit connect. One flower shop owner before crash. It's been good as gold (touch wood). Front bonnet is now rusting through as not as well painted. He's getting it done after the winter.

Make sure you have a good look over what ever you buying, preferably worth a pro. Don't know about resale yet.

I bought a fiesta many years ago. It was stolen a couple of years later. Insurance told me it had previous accident (don't know what grade). They sent a bloke out to interview me, then my brother, whose house it was stolen from, then the previous owner.

He was happy, they were happy and paid out but it took an age to sort the claim out.

 
I work on the basis of buying a vehicle at 4-6 years old, then driving it for years until it's only fit for the scrap yard.

I see your point dave, I work on the. Basis of buying a 8-10year old car that will hold it's value and sell it on after 2 years.

 
And if you really want to get complicated...............I'm re-shelling a 1976 MK2 Ford Capri with a 1983 MK3 Capri shell but with the front end (wings, valance, bonnet) changed to MK2. Normally not an issue if you declare it and go the legit route & have to have an IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval) test. Likely though to end up a Q plate OR at very best the '83 plate. They're going to have a headache when they know the MK3 shell is a Cat C!

Of course if you have a pretty MK1 Escort you can re-shell as many times as you like and get featured in one of the many magazines for Ford devotees. EVEN if the now MEXICO began life as a 1300E. The in joke is that there are now more Mexicos about than were actually made! The DVLA don't seem to bat an eyelid.

IF I was able to re-shell my Capri with a NEW/UNUSED shell that had a receipt and full traceability then that it pretty much the ONLY way to retain the original 1976 reg and ID. It could be something that someone bought and stored 20 years ago or one found in the back of a Ford warehouse as long as it's new and you can prove it. Some marques such as MG now make what they term "heritage" shells, in effect a new albeit reproduced COMPLETE body shell so that's one route. Pretty sure a new chassis is the same - it takes the ID of what it's going on.

Prat Mobil! :slap You mean "modern classic" I'm sure! I had one and now have grown BACK into that phase and have 3! Even youngsters are getting into the now as being "cool" and "retro". The Capri and Capri parts now command silly money. The silver 3.0S that Bodie drove in The Professionals went for over

 
Yes I did enjoy driving my prat mobil Capri when I was a yoof. There was, and still is nothing like it. It was unique.

It was when I got it stuck in a rut trying to get to a remote campsite, and kept grounding the bottom, that I decided it was totally impractical for real life.

That is some wreck of a car, surely it would have been cheaper to replace the roof than to put all that filler on it,,, and the welding, a blind man with his hands tied behind his back could have done a better job:O

There's a guy on our forum runs a garage in ORKNEY specialising in restoring Capris. One of his current projects is the car of one of our members who sadly died (the big C) before he could finish it. His widow Helen had commissioned Trev to do the car so a real sentimental one. I'll try and find a link, NEVER have I seen a Capri so bad.
