we have a male siamese about 8months old. About the past week he's been really wheezy and you can hear the flem on his throat when he's breathing. He's lost his appetite, doesn't eat as much as he normally does and has lost a little weight.

Took him to the vets on friday, they say he has a cold and has given us some antibiotics, he still doesn't seem any better and we go away on holiday on tuesday! Also this morning he couldn't keep his antibiotics down.

Just wanted to know your opinion patch. He will be staying here with family popping by while we are away.

I would suggest going back to the vets tomorrow. They may have an injection of an antibiotic that will give a weeks course from the one jab.

You can help by clearing the secretions from around the nose using damp cotton wool. If you have a hot steamy shower take the cat into the bathroom, it can help. Warming the food (if it's wet food) or offering warmed sardines/pilchards/tuna can overcome the inappetance. A 10-15 second blast in the microwave is sufficient - cats require their sense of smell to decide to eat and often don't eat when their nose is blocked. Warming the food can really help.

He might need some anti-inflammatory as well, but don't give him anything you have lying around at home.

:D

It always happens when people are going away!
