Not done a lot of CCTV, but I want to install a couple of cameras above my garage door to cover the service lane.  I want to get clear view of reg plates and faces - been getting problems with fly tippers and I'm pretty sure a drug dealer is living further up my road, plus there has been the odd shed break-in and theft of  bicycles. Cameras will be at about 3m high, back lane is pretty dark. I've fitted 5 MP on a school - impressive images at a range of 50m, but that is overkill for my location, so I was thinking of 2 MP , possibly 1 MP - don't want to end up buying twice!

PoE seems to be the way forward - simple cat 5 cable run to each camera with the usual max 100m for cat 5 (not sure if cat6 will go further?)
Does it provide as good as quality pictures

Our CCTV company insisted on coax, I was a bit surprised,  I thought they were putting themselves to extra work.
