Ladies and Gents,

After a little advice re my summer holiday. My gf and I want somewhere to go. I quite fancy the channel islands Jersey/ Guernsey.

Is there much to do? Anyone been? What's it like?

I don't need anything too exciting just a few activities to keep us busy for a week.

My reason for liking the place is Jersey cows :D

(I hate flying so must be a short ride, not too expensive (ie avoid euros!) )

Ive been to st hellier, went from weymouth on the catamaran(?)

Guernsey so im told is peacefull and full of flowers(no good for me and my hayfever)

worked there for a while, both islands you mention,

cant remember if it was jersey or guernsey the standing joke was that if you left the pub and turned the WRONG way to walk home you will still have walked it in half an hour,!

is frigging tiny.

but beautiful, if the weather is on your side.

dont expect something to do to be given to you, find your own things to do,

much more enjoyable when you think your the first to discover the little alcove/clearing in the woods, beautiful scene.

ENJOY .....

I have never been to either.

However I have been all over europe, take your own car over the channel and you have France, Belguim, Holland, Germany on your doorstep, and if you wish to travel a bit longer you have Austria, switzerland,Italy and spain all within a weeks driving and sightseeing.

I can for instance travel from the north west of England go to Italy and be back within a week by car, if you fly you could do a weekend easily.

If its Romance its got to be Paris, its a dump really but the girlfriend will love it, because she can say you had taken her there. If its her first time she will always remember it whatever happens in the future. Its the city of lovers after all.

I appreciate what you are saying BUT I'm not contributing a single penny to the French economy (remember BSE & our beef?). I just want something fairly relaxing and from what's been said Channel Islands fit the bill.

I work hard most of the time I just need a good relax (with the odd castle or a nice walk) :D

Also Euro zone SO expensive ATM!

I've been to Jersey.

Sent there for 5 days to install 3 carphones when I worked for one of the big mobile phone companies (did all 3 in the first morning so had 4 days doing touristy things)

As said if you get lost while driving around just keep going you'll do the whole island in half an hour or so.

The German underground war time hospital is a must & do the guided tour well worth it.

Palmont? (couldnt remember the name) beach for a lazy day with a few beers & picnic.

Visit the big gun turrets on the French facing coast, big cliffs & fantastic coastal views (good pub found when there).

Take a flight in one of the buffalo tourist planes (if they still do them) to see the island.

Some good night clubs in Hellier.

Visit the St Hellier museum of occupation (from memory it's across the road from the big hotel the Germans used as their HQ)

The country life museum can use up a few hours.

The weather is usualy very good.

Dont fly there use the Condor ferry.
