Totally agree the OSG is regs dumbed down for idiots. It has it's uses sometimes, but it distracts people from actually thinking and knowing the regs properly. Ask how many electricians have used/ heard of the adiabtic equation?

Haha. That is what I wanted to say but my ban avoidance tool kicked in and prevented me from typing that.

Here are mine. A bloody outrage I might add!  Lol!

The one dated 20/12/15 is my personal favourite.

This is the problem. Not using the correct terminology. The regs do not say the enclosure needs to be fire rated. Just manufactured of NC material.

We we all need to stop looking so deep into the reg and just crack on with installing steel CUs (until a plastic NC CU is released) and make sure the cable entries are well sealed with a trunking or something similar.  The lid needs to also be NC but it does not matter which way the lid hinges.

The CU does not need to be fire proof, flame proof or anything like that.

We we all need to get over it and move on.
I always look a little deeper into the regulations, it helps me to understand why they have come about. You are almost 100% right in what you say, but are mistaken when you say that the lid does not matter which way it is hinged. If closed all the time, no problem, however you can see that  people are prone to leaving things open, fire doors kept open by wedges for instance.

I know a lot, but not everything. When I do not know something I look it up, the OSG's are good for this, If I do something suggested within the OSG then as far as I am concerned I have fulfilled my duties to do something safely, even if I doubt its validity.

One of the main problems with this amendment is the reliance on good workmanship, especially as it was identified as one of the main resons we had the fires in the first place.

How many 3 phase boards do you see in domestics? remember none residential properties are not under this amendment. If a three phase is supplied for a larger domestic you also have to remember that the regulations are never retro. So if you are doing a new install your problem will be to install to the new amendment.

Quite a few actually. Clearly no where near the amount of single phase boards but my comment that the hinging of the flap has no relevance in the regulation.

This is why I look deeper into the regulations. You do it your way and I will differ and do it my way. There is one word within the amendment that clearly shows how and where a lid should be hinged.

Month bans are not uncommon,,,

Wait until your points hit 3 figures, then complain, it doesn't change anything, but complain anyway,I have been banned for totally inoculos answers,  everything from telling a poster to how to stop felines infesting your property to simply posting a tutorial to beginners BDSM. :shakehead

Outrage. Just trying to help.

I just read the osg and it says "consideration should be given to the selection of a class II metal consumer unit when used in an installation forming part of a TT system"

So a metal box with plastic inside to form an insulated enclosure within the metal enclosure

Edit; can't seem to find one as an example though

So you can consider using a metal one then conclude that's a bit stupid??
