Don't know the exact details of job yet as I've not been there yet but.....

I've been told that the house where the installation is taking place has a main CU by the main intake and another CU in the garage which was added to provide for an extension to the house some time ago.

Now, assuming this CU in the garage is feed independently of the main CU (i.e. via splitting tails as opposed to feeding from an MCB in the main CU) is there any reason why I can't feed the PV CU which I will add from the live side of the main switch in this CU in the garage?

Obviously there would be an isolator between the two CUs and warning labels by the existing CU in the garage re dual supply etc.

1. Warning labels must also go at the main intake position.

2. It seems rare for a garage DB to be split from the tails - its normally a submain.

3. It is going to depend on the earthing system, provision & placement of RCDs and compliance with standards..........for instance, is the submain acceptable?

Need more info, mate

not trying to be twisted here,

but, is this yet another case of cheapo jobs being done by people that are not conversant with MCS requirements?

either you know the regs or you are not competent enough to be doing the job.!

end of!

plus, that adds the fact, do you even have the relevant qualifications to do this job satisfactorily.?!

Yeah sorry I know not enough info, but I don't have the info myself yet. I just wanted to know in principal really. Thanks.---------- Post Auto-Merged at 07:41 ---------- Previous post was made at 07:28 ----------

not trying to be twisted here, but, is this yet another case of cheapo jobs being done by people that are not conversant with MCS requirements? No - this is a case of me being advised via the job survey to do it this way but me wanting to be completely satisfied that this is ok either you know the regs or you are not competent enough to be doing the job.!

end of! I am not conceited enough to believe that I know every reg - so when I'm not sure about something I seek advice!

plus, that adds the fact, do you even have the relevant qualifications to do this job satisfactorily.?! Yes I have the relevant qualifications
Is there something fundamentaly wrong with this method.??

(As above I know I have to take account of RCD provision & placement etc)

Furthermore an inverter supplied from a PV array must be connected via a dedicated circuit, to a spare fuseway in the main distribution unit, or to a fuseway in an additional dedicated distribution board.
