just a quick question, whats the general price you would charge for a 3 double sockets, and a light in a newly built conservatory. Do you have a rough price you give builders or look at every job? My old mans a self employed builder just done a conservatory for him, just wanted to charge him for my time and materials plus 10% as hes my dad, so 4hours 120 and 25. Would you say 200quid to cover allowances to joe public.

Personally I'd look at each job...

Because they are all different.

Are the earthing arrangements adequate?

Are the PEB's OK

Is there any RCD protection

Is the CU up to std??? you could have an old 3036 fuse board with ceramic fuse holders

Are the circuits you are adding to suitable??

There are far too many variables to have a standard cost.

Sellers - it's all well and good been kind to your father in his own home (do it for free ;) ) but if it's for a customer then it has to be the going rate? C'mon they are paying, not your father AND he's not likely to sack you ;)

No?

Conservatories are not the easiest jobs to wire. You have to look where you are running cables IE in screed and up to sockets or down low level and up to sockets. Some have finished brickwork which is a nightmare if customer wants flush sockets. You have to price each job on merits. Also how you are going to feed sockets etc are where from.

what my old man does is price the conservatory including the sockets and light. His electrician comes to do the job and then if bonding is needed or RCD's etc then the electrician disscusses this with the customer. Apparantly his nickname is 'mr consumer unit' as 8/10 he's telling customers they're going to need a new consumer unit with their conservatory.

It was my first conservatory and to be fair it was a dodle. 3 sockets all drilled back entry and ran the cables in the cavity no need for chasing sockets as dot and dab was thick enough. Tapped into the ring at a socket very close and put a fused spur on the ring for the light.

Maybe it depends at what stage your asked to come in to wire.
