Hi All.I was talking to a mate in London this week about what he charges for a Con Unit change.

I was surprised when he told me

Is he central london paying congestion charge and parking etc. Im in south east London and your prices sound more like mine mate.

I'm from Devon and I charge 350 plus vat for a straight forward board change. If it's an old property or one that looks like it's going to be more work I'll quote more.

Hi All Thanks to all of you for taking the trouble to reply. This has put my mind at rest about how much I charge.

When I visit a property to quote for a job, before I give the quote,I look for the main bond connections, as installing them could in some instances mean a fair bit of work. I also have a walk around the property to get an idea of the overall condition of the installation and to see if there are any obvious non compliances or anything dangerous. I also like to unscrew a ceiling rose cover and one switch. And I always do a Zs measurement on at least one socket.A look inside the existing consumer unit will also give a good indication of the general state of the installation.

Thanks again and best wishes,

Sounds like a logical approach Speedster. I can never understand people who think they can give a price for a new CU the phone, without even looking at the condition of the existing installation.

Good breakdown of costs Manator.

Don't forget that daily rate you need to earn is AFTER you have paid income tax and national insurance, so the before tax earnings needs to be higher than that by at least 20% so at least
