Damien, don't be too upset with Evans, I also thought along the same lines as him, IMO an approved 'competent person' shouldn't have to ask basic stuff like where to buy triangular meter keys.I see by the length of time you've been here there shouldn't be a wind up angle to this, but it does/did look like it.

Mark.
I've only recently registered with the NICEIC and, although it does seem that the questions i'm asking in this thread are basic, as I haven't so far had anything to do with the cut-out (including buying meter keys) I thought it best to pick the brains of the people on here.

Thats very good advise in itself, I would rather work with you who ask than those who do not, well done mate for asking.

OK Damien, no problem . Best if you search the Forum for the thread on meter seals ,all you need to know is on there.

But for now , don't do it live, inspect the seal on the cut-out ,try pulling it with your side cutters and you may find its not very secure ,in which case you may as well pull it and change the C/U .

Remove the fuse from the carrier and replace empty carrier while you work to cover the live terminal and don't mess about with the cut-out in any other way.

While its dead , fit an isolator to the tails , like the Wylex one shown above , they don't cost a lot .

dont forget to isolate the main switch in the cu first

Thanks for the advice Evans Electric :)

Although not the correct procedure, I dont think DNO's are too bothered about "sparks" pulling the main fuse in order to isolate. Imagine the work load if the DNO was called out every time a consumer unit was upgraded?

I called DNO out last week whilst about to start upgrading a CU (High Ze). Luckily they where in the area and called 20 mins later to check overhead. He said "take it your guna pull that main fuse, so ill give u a few seals to reseal it...." happy days

That's alright Damien,

I have to start a thread on how to wire a "Central Heating System" from scratch soon.

I have taken pics of it and all will added to that thread.

Plumber co*ked it all up. :_|

I have never worked on one before - So I will nedd a Dummies (Dummy's) guide on how to wire it. :_|

I am not looking forward to the replies. :_|

Just Kidding - I know these guys will be fab!.

Best Regards,

Admin.
