a spark has been to a mates FILs house, disconnected the TT Earth rod and connected the MET directly to the service head.

As far as I know there was zero involvement from the supplier

I was under the impression we shouldn’t do this

thoughts ?

If they have connected to the service head sounds like they have connected into the neutral, no they should not have done this.

its possible that it was already setup as TN from the DNO but was left as TT, in which case its not an issue. seen it a few times, enquire and they say TN

if its a truly DIY conversion (i.e DNO have it as TT) then it shouldn't be done

slightly unrelated by there is (was, knocked down now) an entire estate in Gateshead. TT, overhead lines with an earth block on the side of the head. it was never connected internally, but there were plenty houses using it as TN to save putting a rod in... council electricians for you...
