Converting consumer unit to duel.

There is an oldish metal consumer unit with a 100 ma RCD and 10 MK MCBs all in very good condition, I want to convert it into a duel unit with two 30ma RCDs and double pole main switch, There are a couple of spare ways in the unit and if I remove the 100ma RCD there will be room for the new RCDs but I would then need to place a main switch in a separate small unit next the the existing one and wondered if there is any reason I can't do this.

Update the whole box and use one with RCBO's and SPD

What is your reasoning for wanting a split board (. 2 RCDs)?

The box will save you around £40, and you will find it difficult to get all the new bits in, if you can find all the parts you need like neutral and earth bars, plus the mounting brackets for the. Buy a new board and save yourself a lot of swearing

When you say "old ish" - can you post a photo?

Also beware that the new breakers will be more sensitive

It may end up looking like a mess as well as being non compliant.
As said replace with spd rcbo unit.

What earthing system is it ?

Is the 100ma rcd the only one protecting the install. ?
