thanks for that, this is on a 6mm 32 amps mcb, considering putting on a 40, then 10mm cable, i read on here people dont like 6mm on 40.however according to diversity 30 or 32 mcb should be fine
What people on here like or dont like is irrelevant...

What do your calcs come out to based on your knowledge of the particular installation characteristics?

Length of run, Grouping, Insulation etc.. etc...

Remember 6.00mm clipped direct can take 46A/47A (Method C)

What people?

I'm with Specs on this. As long as the rating of the 6mm cable is 40A or more then go ahead and put it on a 40A MCB. Under install method C, 6mm t&e is rated at 47A.

There is no need to like or dislike this. The design and engineering has all been done for us. The characteristics of a 40A MCB are designed and engineered to give the required protection. Or do people prefer to believe that BS7671 just plucks random numbers out of the air for its rating tables?

BS7671 takes decades of R&D knowledge and distills it into one easy to use document, enabling us, the installers, to construct a safe electrical installation. Just use it as it is and get on with it.

I fitted one of these today, a 900mm Rangemaster all electric with a rating of about 15KWShame the customer didn't do his research first as the existing cooker point is only 6mm from a 30A MCB. I told him the feed really needs upgrading, but it's a long and tortuous route to pull a new cable so he declined. I have warned him if he tries using both ovens and several rings together the MCB will trip, and of course I refused to uprate the MCB without uprating the cable.

Anyway to answer the question, the input terminals are behind a panel on the back and are two very large stud terminals, easily capable of taking 10mm twin & earth which is what the cooker really needs. No cable is supplied. The cable clamp is designed for flat cable and easily capable of accommodating 10mm T&E. The connection terminals are some of the best I have seen in a cooker for a long time (but that's not hard as some of them are utter carp)
I have that exact oven (well 900mm electric rangie) and its wired in 6mm with 32A breaker and never had an issue even at xmas with both ovens and all 5 rings going at it.

And before anyone asks, it was there before I moved in.

TBH Thats more for showers where someone (read have-a-go diyer) could replace the 8K5 shower you installed with a 10K5 and swap the breaker for a 50A. It is more to do with limiting issues should people 'upgrade' further down the line. As others have suggested, do all the calcs and you won't go wrong.

thanks for the good advice, your a good bunch of lads;)
