It's a design condition based on the installation at that time if there are issues further in the future caused by a n other that's their problem to solve. You have done your but. Sounds like you are making a mountain out of a molehill

Hum ...... all it’s going to take is the next spark to come along and blame the installer for conditions well out of their control .......then the C2’s start getting applied ....

🙄 It's no different to designing any other installation. You could design a circuit to take 40 amps and someone come along and add extra to it taking it beyond your original design parameters. Anyone who C2s for being over 30% earth leakage with no known nuisance trip issues shouldn't be carrying out EICRs anyway. Sadly the industry continues to let any moron do them.

I notice one of the additions is  the death penalty  for using a "rogue "   MCB into a board .

We discussed it on here many times and there were various views  .     Mine was  ... a board  full of oddball MCBs looks like a bodge up , and unprofessional .     However , in the real world ,  there are some makes I would have to order in , or approach wholesalers I don't use  or even go on ebay  .   All this faffing about costs you money and  if theres a perfectly good , MCB  to BS   that fits...in the van   :C .   ( If I were going back there I'd take the right one with me )

Just done some remedial jobs following an EICR  by another  NIC firm .   It was a basically sound  report TBH  , couple of  OTT items  ,  (We all have our different opinions )

One I noticed was,  the board is plastic and must be changed  C2 ,     we fitted it 5 years ago ,   an MCB of a different make is in the board C2  .   Thing is it was a Crabtree board  and one Steeple MCB was fitted ....Crabtree actually make Steeple  for Denmans own  brand  .

Crabtree are Electrium which are Volex, Crabtree Wylex, and are Siemens, and I have an email from them stating that they do NOT make MCB's for anyone else.

This was only a few weeks ago though, so I am unsure what the situation was some time ago.

Interesting ....  I was told at Denmans  that Steeple brand MCBs are made by Crabtree.         I was given Steeple part numbers  for the Great Elecrium  recall on breakers , along with Crabtree  & Wylex .   I never fit Wylex  so I was doing recalls  to Crabtree & Steeple boards.

Mind you I was also led to believe that all MCBs originate from  only  three different manufacturers .

Along with TV flat screens  only come from two sources.

It can get very confusing

Ahh, now this may stem from the great recall!

Prior to this, that may have been true, now however since then it seems that the situation has changed.

It was the changeover that caused the great recall in the first place.

Remember meeting Havells at Elex?  They made the MCB's that were part of the great recall and the litigation is still ongoing.

Really  !!!    Yes I remember meeting them .    Their stuff was made in India wasn't it ?

And  some geezer who used to be on here ...erm.... something about narrow boats ...er ...  canals... Bargeboy ....no ..  Paddling Person ... Ohh  who was it now ???

Its confusing ....  I used Control Gear for ages  ...then noticed their MCBs  were identical to Merlin Gerin  and now they belong to  Lewden  .

Wouldn’t it just be easier if the manufacturers were honest about the compatible makes that share the same unit with only a differing label to distinguish, therefore the regs could then be written to something relevant rather than a blanket cover which individualises the manufacturers and can in some situations as outlined cause us the end user issues?

I have used their stuff for about 8 years. I think I has always been Lewden

i like their Curve boards and the RCBOs as there is no fiddly earth reference Wire " that needs cutting off and throwing in the scrap pile "

nice to install and my prefered choice if they won't pay for one of SBS daves

HOWEVER......have you ever used he of their 3ph boards ???

i used one once, never again! Total and utter tsunami of festering runny dark-yellowish bluebottle encrusted Dogs Faeces that has been left for a while to ferment!

Every time I go back to add another circuit I dread it

Merely advising

That bad Eh!      Yes we used one in a garage  , I have to go back there to up a breaker to a "C" type  .   I don't remember any issues TBH    .   Is the door awkward to fit on & off ?

No prob with door....that usually falls off

main issue is with the blanks falling out as soon as you pull into car park and the 'pan assembly' on the heap of faeces I was sold  is adjustable! Why?

get it even 1mm out and the cover will not fit

most of internal components are made out of substandard tinfoil and cheese

Merlin Gerin/Schneider for me whenever possible
