Hi, I have been asked to change a BS3036 fuse board to a 17th edition type. At the moment all of the cables are entered through the top, what do u surggest when it comes to fitting the new CU. how can i get around this issue due to IP4X.....do u recommend a particular CU manufacture.....

Alternatively:

a...mount the unit on vertical 2x1 battens, with the cables then entering through the rear.

b...Hager`s units are fitted with a clever piece of spongy foam in the top. Remove it, bring cables in, and the foam compresses around them, providing IP protection to the top surface.

Never thought about bringing it forward with battens, usually I try and fish them behind the exising board, or put my own board in and come back entry. For the Tails I use a short peice of 50x50 trunking, either horrizontally or vertically depending on the situation.

No-ones mentioned the obvious, cut the holes out tidy so you are still protected to IP4X when you've done. ;)

you could also cut a large slot on top of CU. then cut a matching slot in some 100x50 or 50x50. strip outer sheath back in here, and it can make one very neat board

I think he's meaning like this sort of thing (probably wants a better pic tbh).

Run the trunking across the top of the board and slot both. Strip all the cables back into the trunking and run the singles into the board.

well that saves me finding a pic of it!

I tend to do that with 50x50 along the top but keep the outer sheath until its inside the CCU on board upgrades. Looks neater and complies with ip4x.Ian.
i think it looks neater outer sheath taken back to out of CU. either way, it still complies with IP4X

Hi

I'm going to replace my CU next year, using it as my assessment.

Now at the moment my old CU is tight to the ceiling, so if I replace it with new can I put my one tight to the ceiling as well and then feed cables in from the top, as it is now ?? or is it best to drop it down a bit, lots of room to do so, and then feed from behind.

Cheers

Cheers for the reply, will keep in up tight (ish) then, make's it easy for me, that way cables should not need to be extended and also might get away with out having to re paint the room :D
