Had a problem with a cannon camera that is 6 months old!

We had it in its camera case for 5 months of its life.

Sent it off for repair in pristine condition

Currys sent it all the way to Germany (**** knows)

it came back.... damaged :( scratched and even a black case/glasses case missing!

So we told them to send it back with a report.

Today we got the call from currys saying

touch **** (yes they was the words of the STORE MANAGER!!!)

Nothing can be done, were left with a camera thats now damaged which cost us 300+

headbang headbang

Consumer direct say nothing can be done.

Crap or what!

is there not a year warranty on these things?

there was a thing a bout a year ago that said under eu law all white goods had to have 3 years on them, apparently currys and the like had to extange loads of things and means there sales team have no chance in selling there extended warranty as it's already there.

take it back and stand in the store going up to customers and showing them your camera, with a bit of luck the store manager will extange it!

good luck!

Its already been repaired... the camera works perfectly

What im trying to say sorry is that they sent it for repair... when it left it was in as new condition

When it was returned it was scratched to hell.

so they damaged the casing quite badly aswell

We argued it with canon and currys

and were getting no where so just warning people about the customer service of currys, it seems to be common in other stores that they dont care about anything after sales.

What if the strap accidentally broke whilst leaning over a very high bridge whilst on holiday. Unfortunate I know but these things happen, and the insurance company will re-imburse you so all is not lost.

insurance company? wont entertain it as it wasn't in our possession

Complete different situation though hangin over a bridge...

Why should we accept a camera worth 300+ still that was in as new condition (had to repaired understandable)

but why should we have to accept one that now looks a mess?

Totally agree with you, just thinking outside the box to help you get a new one;)

I'd pursue this further, clearly the store manager doesn;t care so just continue up the chain and then onto other avenues.

This is why I have never shopped in Currys\Comet\Dixons\PC World etc... Most people think I'm daft, I know they're all crap and will eventually bite you in the arse. It's not even as if they're dirt cheap either.

after care with Currys is crap, i would take it back when its busy and argue the toss with the manager, if u get no where ask for the head office contact details they have to display them in the store, take down names of staff and the manager on the phone, that's important, write and ring head office complaints department, tell them about the mangers attitude also

i hate stores who do this its the kind of thing u expect from a small local shop haning on to every sale, part of the reason u pay more from big stores is that any problems they should sort it no questions asked

Go in there and accidently knock a top of the range laptop on the floor

You scratch my camera and ill scratch your laptop.

Doesnt help really but make yourself feel better. headbang

just be carefull u dont end up paying for the laptop aswell,

put a mask on or failing that your wife's tights on your head or borrow some of specs stockings

I bought a tape dack from Currys (some years ago) Started making funny noises. Called mastercare (as it was then) 2 or 3 hoime visits with no success, took it away for 6 weeks, came back with a huge dent in the casing and the same fault. Eventually after much letter writing and complaining I got it replaced. Don't take no for an answer and get trading standards involved.

r u sure it is the same camera, or has it been swapped with one repaired earlier?

Also have a word with your local CAB, in essence Currys had a duty of care with your property if they failed and returned it in a worse condition it falls on them to compensate you for your loss, in this case devaluation of its net worth

An yes it's possible you may have received a repaired/refurb replacement, check the serial number on the case with your Canon warranty, if they differ Currys have no leg to stand on as they would have needed to confirm in writing that you might not get the same unit back, in this scenario you could take out a small claims for loss of your property

A useful tip in these situations if the store manager is being a *, as him for the name of the Managing Director so you can go to the top, if you end up having to write to the MD mark the envelope 'Private & Confidential' better still get the MD's email address

Yes - taking picture of your camera is tricky................ :D
We have another camera aswell, but who takes pictures of there camera before using it? or sending it off lol

i have inside experience of the proceedure for faulty electronic & digital goods.

If a laptop, camera, i-pod or similar is brought in with any damage to the case or screen, in-store customer services will usually not accept it back under warranty for obvious reasons.

Try asking the manager why his store accepted it back in such an alleged condition without pointing out the above to you.

When we took it for repair.

We took box, everything, plastic bags all packed as we bought it (my other half likes t keep stuff like that lol)

they took the camera out of box, and ticked on box

"Complete, As New Condition"

This is the only proof we have.

They then said we only send camera, fine no problem... we said, can we wrap it in bubble wrap. he said "nope we just put it in a padded envelope, which my other half went mad at, and they wrapped it up lol"

So if they accepted it as "complete, as new condition", they should return it as such.
