Dangers of going to friends houses!

I finished work last night and got picked up by the girlfriend to go to a friends house. Had a nice time until the question came up!

'I've just got a couple of new lights...... can you put them up?'

Hmmmmm...... No tools on me, so I ask what have you got?

Why do people thing a good tool kit is a little stubby ratchet screwdriver with interchangeable bits that fall out continually, a selection of watchmakers screwdrivers and a pair of pliers? :_|

Still whatever comes to hand....

Then you get the question while you're up the ladder trying to get the loop wires into the stupidly small choc-bloc that's supplied 'why aren't the lights working?'

Ummmm... because I have a healthy respect for staying alive! :^O

Mate's rates & family freebies. Grrrr!!

This happened last year:

'Er Indoors "army volunteered" me to move her bro's phone master socket and disconnect 2 wall lights for decorating. So far so good, no problems, work was a bit slack at the time.

Three weeks later after the decorating was finished, I got the question "When can you come and re-fit the lights?". It's a 25 mile round-trip and the bro-in-law is a shoulder-surfer of note!

"Work's really busy at the moment..... about a fortnight...... is that OK?"

"Well, we really want them up sooner than that"

"I can give you the number of a sparky mate..... he's actually quite close to where you live."

Big panic is sister-in-law's voice.... "How much will he charge?"

"Dunno. Best thing is to ask him as I don't know his rates".

It all went quiet after that and neither me nor my mate put the new lights up. I have not asked who did, and frankly I don't much care.

I avoid doing work for relative and friends like the plague, it is bound to end in tears.

Recently I was asked by a son-in-law to install a dimmer in place of a single light switch. Removed the cover saw that it was one of those thin 15mm metal back boxes on a bit of grotty stud within a stud wall and said "no chance sorry, getting that out will ruin the plasterboard". Any excuse will do, always be one jump ahead B)

just recently rewired sisters house they had moved into, had put it off and off until brother and two brother-out-laws put me on the spot, they would chase walls pull cables i 'just' had to connect everything up and supervise, i was too busy with work but that was ok because they wanted to do it on a weekend anyway! :^O i knew i wouldn't get paid but eventually did it anyway, total price for job

LOL, my missus reckons I just swear a lot and I just dont realise it.

she's met a few of my friends and i think now she realises that **** isnt really regarded as a swear word in Ireland.!!!! Its just in common usage....

cant wait to see how shes gonna react when we eventually get to go there!!!!
