Did anyone see watchdog last night - the first electrician got a belt off the kitchen cooker switch.

He never put the earth to the back box back - He then went to get another switch and charged

Watchdog has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

What struck me was none of these "sparks" were ever seen to be using any sort of tester. What happened to "test for dead"?

The second one where the set up was a lighting wire removed from the MCB was a hoot. The guy claimed the wire was "burnt out" then an argument ensued when the lady of the house asked for the bit of burnt out cable to show her husband.

Why does anyone have to lie about something like that? What's wrong with just being honest and saying there was a loose connection that you have tightened? Or being even more honest and saying "the wire was completely removed from the MCB, I think this is a set up" Oh that wouldn't be good tv would it?

Agreed the charges are outrageous. Why does anyone pay

That's just tv " stuff" . But was funny the last one with the tripped Rcd . They told him to go,get "another" one, come 3 hours later and install same Rcd .... Wow!

m107 had a chat about this with napit guy he said its all going towards tagging the back of the box

M107 is right,

If the accessory screws to the back box through at least 1 fixed lug then you do not need to install a fly lead,,,, well that's what my regs book says;)

+1 to noz. My regs book says that too. :)
Same as with these Muppet Plumbers and 'you have to cross bond the boiler' etc etc etc. One tried to argue with me the other day....bad move.

We work to the BGB [bRB aswas] NOT to some whim of an NICEIC/NAPIT/Corgi?Gas Safe or whatever Installer/Inspector/Jobsworth.......... :coat

I have actually got the plumbing inspector for a biggish housing association to change his view on this bonding of boilers issue, :)

The trouble is that most TV programs will scout the internet for "experts", as a result they run the risk of appointing a 5 day wonder, simply because he has a website and is a registered domestic installer.

This forum inundated a TV show with comments after a similar show was aired, but the TV company never took any heed, or advise. The older members may remember this, it was before my time as a member here, but as a good moderator I researched past threads, which is why I remember this occasion.
