Hi.

I have economy 7, so have a split fuse board.

I'm updating my consumer unit and have received various quotes.

  • One is recommending to replace with 2 consumer units
  • another is going to install a skeleton consumer unit
  • and another is going to fit a split consumer unit

Could somebody please explain to me the difference between a skeleton and split consumer unit?

Many thanks.

From what I have seen;  none.

A skeleton unit is just a single unit with the

protective devices located as required, and

this may mean a "split" unit in which two

RCD's protect two sets of circuit breakers.

Thanks for the reply and confirming.  Thats what I thought, but I wasnt 100%, as when I googled, there were distinct skeleton and split units.

Beavis; I have no idea how this came about;  I can only imagine

that the skeleton unit is literally the framework on or in which you

build the circuit protections you need.

A skeleton unit is normally recessed into a wall or such like,

The actual internals/working parts can be configured in any manner you wish or require.

Skeleton to me would refer to what I would call a Clifton  mantel  unit. I wonder if the "split" unit is actually a dual tariff badly worded.
