Picking some brain matter if possible

DP Switches at DNO Serving Consumer unit

1:- What is the recommended life span of these isolators as the screws never get checked for tightness, example on an EICR.

2:- PME System -  seeing this more regular. Tails from meter to DP 16mm then 25mm out to consumer

(me personal should be same from meter to consumer.)

These companies who fit these DP I Know for certain do not check the fuses so in theory the cable is undersized in some issues- so

is their any sites, where I Can get this info.

(reason why COW on site has pulled few houses - I have been trying to get an answer form these companies but it is a waste of time)

any thoughts Lads

cheers

1/ life span indefinite and if done correctly the terminals should never need re-torquing.*

2/ what the meter company fits is non of your concern.

*Torque setting is a precise science, re-torquing can loosen the connection.

Best way yo get DNO to upgrade substandard tails on their side is to report a "dangerous condition"  Anything else just gets pushed back and never done.

Have we not had a discussion before regarding whether the tails from the meter to the isolator is the responsibility of the DNO or the energy supplier?

Won't be much good reporting it to the DNO if it's not their responsibility.

not much good reporting it to the supplier either. they don't give a s****.

last time I did they refused to do it as was a TP  head so instead they found a gas leak (bg) and shut off the customers gas!

:C

@OP why all the questions?

I went round the loop once with a customer who's energy supplier was N Power.

The tails were substandard and I in my opinion dangerous.

The DNO (SSE) didn't want to know as although they would actually do the work, they had to be instructed to do so by the energy supplier.

N Power just didn't have anyone to talk to who understood what I was talking about. I had a parrot on the other end of the phone who just kept repeating "put your request in writing.  So I did, but I don't know if anything ever got done.

Sometimes the system is a shambles, the problem is some energy suppliers are responsible, others just want to avoid actually doing anything.

Re the tails, part of the problem is the fact that the OSG shows 25mm and it makes people believe that this is the minimum size. There are countless domestic installations with 60A or 80A fuses so upgrading them from the meter isn't necessary.

Sure if you do fit an isolator and the tails are easy to change them putting 25mm in does make good practice and sense....

It is fair to say that if the seals are in tack and the seal fairy is unwilling to travel then the tails should be designed for the worst case scenario which would be 100A.

I Agree As good practice

Yet when doing a EIC certificate it lists tails from meter to DB
