Went round to a house today to price for a new triton electric shower replacement as the old one has given up, done the usual walk round and noticed no Earth connected to the TNS Head ( No bond onto SWA )

looked at the water main next to it Bonded ok but plastic pipe running into the ground so no earth, checked the gas No Bond I can see maybe under the boards !!

House built in 1934

Got the old Fluke out and measured the Ze, 0.14ohms, 16th edition RCD with 6 MCB's no Main earth ever fitted.

So advised customer to call DNO, they said there's not a lot they can do so the husband phoned up instead and he is now getting somebody to come out and have a look.

The thing is if you find a BS951 fitted to it and call it in they just come and change it, but if it never had an earth then it's like asking for a blow-job off the pope.

What's everybody else's experience with this situation!!!!

mike,

It may be a TNS head, but, is the install TT?

My own home has what appears to be a TNS head, but we are TT.

Get the DNO out it should not cost and get comfirmation of the situation and then go from there?

Hi Paul,

The thing is when you phone them they don't seem to know sometimes either,

it just seems simpler for them to say you got to TT it !!

Should have checked the neighbours Earthing arrangement.

Mike
