Hello all,

Does a supply to an external garage need to have an extra c/u? I'm intending on running the supply from a spare way in the c/u - this is all rcd protected etc. Its only going to supply 2 sockets in garage which will be almost right next to each other - no lighting etc so do I really need a seperate c/u?

'need' is a very strong word

how are you running the supply (what type of cable?)

How will you isolate the garage. Would be a pain to have to go into house to reset MCB/RCD/RCBO?

What about when lights seem a good idea since there's now electricity out there etc.......

If the supply to the house is TNC-S You will be taking a supply out side the equipotential zone, so will need an earth stake to provide an earth at the garage so I would say you will need a small consumer unit, and if not TNC-S would be good practice too CJS

I thought lights were a good idea but customer only wants a couple of sockets to run a spare fridge and freezer. Supply is TNS

For me its just another room with two sockets in it ,don't see the need for a C/U or earth rod.
Yes if they are plastic sockets I probablyt would not put in consumer unit. Maybe put a switch spur other end for isolation. I did one a while back, 1 socket in summerhouse it was pme supply but circuit was RCD protected. I put switch spur house end job done.
