Ok sorry if you have already stated this but what field of the electrical industry do you practise in ?

And which do you personally prefer?

And how many yrs have you been in the industry?

Blimey Gavin , are you the taxman ??

I practice in all of them .......darn'd if I can get it right though.

In the following order :- Commercial, Industrial, new build Domestic . ........

And way down the bottom:-

Occupied Domestic, houses full of furniture , junk, crawling around in lagging filled lofts.

How many years in the industry ?? OMG ! I just counted...its frightening ... Elvis had come out of the Army ...erm...Cliff was still touring with the Shadows .... Nah ! I'm saying nothing .

Not as long as Steptoe of course , who started his apprenticship with Michael Faraday & Sons Ltd but had to break his time to fight in the Boar War .

Boar War? Was that in the Bay of Pigs?

LOL Evans. :slap Good One!

Thanks Evan:cool: come on everyone I think it's good to know everyone's background as I they all have different depths of knowledge&experience in their own fields

I cover all aspects except agricultural. I would say 60% is domestic, 40% commercial & industrial. I prefer the latter - too many part p regs in domestic. Been in the industry for 7 years.

I started out doing commercial at Heathrow back in the late 90's. I loved learning about that side of installation, I was happy as a pig in the proverbial in doing that side of things, it was a shame that I didn't really like the firm I worked for or the college. But that was made up by the way some of the airlines representatives treated us if we had to do remedial work for them at times.

I then went on to wiring pubs, decent cash, but you were always under the cosh time wise, I would work 18-20 hour shifts at times to complete the job.

I have done a fair bit of house bashing. I know that when I get started, I would have to start in this side of the industry, which is ok, but I will be looking to move into the small commercial sides of things if I get the opportunity.

My advice to anyone wanting a start in this industry would be to aim for comm/ind employers, as you have a greater variety of work to learn.

My self ? I'm a student, but it's good to know who's who and what experience they have and what industries they have worked in ;)

about 7 years site work, 70 percent commercial/industrial including maintenance and machine breakdowns. the rest is domestic occupied rubbish. i have friends who qualified same time as me that have never ever touched any 3phase equipment. and as a result of they dont know a lot about motors and the heavier industry stuff, and hence are struggling to get work in the current climate...

I mainly do domestic, occassionally commericial and i've got an agricultural job coming up

Been practicing electrical work for nearly ten years, self taught then later used a *sigh* seven week course to get some qualifications, and learn nothing more than I already knew but hey.

Went self employed last august after finishing college, enrolled with elecsa for part p and am already stacking up the jobs nine months in.

Wouldn't change my career choice for the world, its what i've always been good at and what i've always wanted to do, however unfortunaltey, being only 19, get some funny looks from other sparks at wholesalers and stuff, but surprisingly never had a customer question my ability "you look too young to be qualified", get a few inquisitive ones though
