Double Immersion Help Please

Hi, got a customer with an all electric house, no boiler for hot water, just 2 immersion heaters in a cylinder, each controlled by a switch.

She wants to run them through a timer so she can have a tank of water ready for mornings etc, am I right in thinking that a 2 channel time clock will accomplish this? i.e. run the top immersion from 'heating' and bottom from 'hot water' ?

Make sure the timer will switch the loads

Usually 3kw for the elements..........i doubt that the timer will switch this load.

You may well need some relays

If he has an all electric house then surely he has economy 7 or 10?  if not then he SHOULD have.

that will provide you with cheap rate overnight specifically for heating storage heaters and giving a cheap tank of hot water.

The answer for how to wire the immersion heaters is different depending on whether he has economy 7 or not.

A normal "central heating" programmer will NOT run the 3KW load of an immersion heater, at least not any that I have seen, they are for switching small loads for the central heating controls.

Are you thinking of a Central Heating Programmer  there Sproket ?     If so don't .   Pretty sure they only switch 6A  at most . 

Get two proper Imm Htr timers

You could run it through a "Horstman" type economy 7 immersion clock and re-gig the timings (if necessary) to suit

and one of these programmers.  Nice and easy for the tenant.  They can give the heating or water a boost if required as well.

Why would you need a contactor when the programmer is rated for immersions?

I'd just use the programmer and extend the circuit
