Hello!!

I was just wondering if I could have some advice please.

I am installing a smart downlight and have changed over the electrical wires. I just wanted to double check I have done it right (I think I have) and if I need to chop off the end of the cables so that the wire isn’t sticking out.

I would appreciate if someone could advise.

thank you!

You have them in the right places but you really want to trim the copper ends a little, the aim being when the cable is pushed fully into the connector, the insulation goes right up to the connector and no bare copper is visible,

I connected it after chopping the copper a little bit, however after switching the power back on this one isn’t turning on? Do you have any ideas? Thank you for your help.

What is "Smart " about this downlight ?    One of those you can switch it on & off  with your cellphone ?           We presume it worked before you worked on it so how does it switch on & off ?

If you have more than one of the lights then swap them over

if not then check you have the wires pushed right into the terminals EVEN the ones that were already there from the factory

We have  6 smart lights in the back bedroom..only because we did not know where the bed was going so could not fit a two,way switch. 5/6 are smart. The other is thicker than 🐷 💩 it just does what it wants

I managed to solve the problem!

The cable was loose slightly so I pushed it in further and it works perfectly!

Thank you for the help.

for those wondering, this is the downlight in question: https://www.ryness.co.uk/tcp-smart-wifi-ip65-8w-fire-rated-downlight

It is smart controlled by phone / voice control etc.

I couldn’t find a better solution for this so settled for this one.

Seeing the whole fitting now, you need to shorten all 3 cables.  the idea is the grey outer sheath should be clamped under that cable clip with the 2 screws and the inner cores contained inside that junction box.
