It came with a loose earth cable that was part of the fixture .
However on the bracket there is no screw terminal , neither is there anything to attach it to ,
inside the shell of the base .
I know that the earth is giving problem as the light won't switch on at all .

I know that the earth is giving problem as the light won't switch on at all .

That statement makes no sense at all???

Consider: before 1966 the UK wiring regs had NO requirement for any earth on lighting circuits... and all of the lights in a property worked very happily without any earth connections!

Your Live, Neutral, Switch, Supply or The fitting itself are the reason it wont switch on at all...
Not the earth!

Nicely explained .what I'll do is upload a photo of the base unit as it was packed and maybe you can tell me where I went wrong
It won't work as it's connected incorrectly
The earth is to 'save life' not provide lights
