Just a quickie guys. I'm installing a new CU in a property with TNS earthing. The earth connection is a bit battered and bruised, rusty etc. Unable to do any live testing as yet due to the property being disconnected (former crack house, police had to smash the door in to get em out!)

My question is, can I change earthing arrangements to TNCS to save faffing around, or is this something that has to be run past the DNO first?

Cheers

DNO has to do that - Not you, I am affraid Baz.

Why would you want to change a TNS to a TN-C-S? Just give them a call mate, and explain to them. I would image that they would come pretty quickly for that?

Was thinking just to save a little time really, 16mm earth straight into neutral box, happy days.

Alas, looks like a phone call to DNO

you can only change a TN to TT. you cannot change any TNS or TT to TNCS

if earth loop is high, call DNO on emergency number

and if you do add an earth to neutral, how can you guarantee its safe? the network may have known problems and certain connections etc that make it unsafe to use a TNCS supply.

As Andy has said, only the local network co. can convert you to PME, there are districts and areas where the network will not support TNCS.

Put a request in to upgrade the rusty TNS connection.
