Any experts on ebay here?     I use it occasionally and have never had a problem , in fact it has been a positive experience .

I made a small order in January which never came .   All it was is 10    of those Terry Spring clips for clipping tools etc (Actually for walking sticks)   @ less than £4 .00   so the money is not a major problem but wondering how the system works from then on .

Tracking number is not recognised by Royal Mail , exchange of emails , claims to have mailed a second package etc  but not holding my breath  TBH .

The thing is , what if this was a substantial amount of money , what would one do ?

Open an "item not received" sispute. the onus is then on the seller to prove it was received otherwise you will get a refund from Paypal.

You may be over the time limit to do that now.

I was in a bit of a rush the other week, saw a listing for an unpopulated  Metal CU (I have all the internals for it) and clicked to buy.

When it turns up its a metal back and a plastic front. So sent an email to the seller asking WTGrape this is? Received a reply which explains that actually it is listed in the details as an insulated cover ( which it actually is, tucked away in very small print halfway down the enormous page) so if I want a refund Ill have to pay to have it sent back registered post etc etc.

For the sake of 20 quid I really cant be bothered with all that. And normally Id just write it off as experience, in this particular case tho Ive noticed that the seller is based in the next town along from my Mum, and I'm going up to see her next week, so I shall be visiting the tosspot in person, and shoving it where the sun doesn't shine.

I sometimes think Ive been hanging round Canoeboy too long

If you buy anything on ebay, USE PAYPAL... If the item does not arrive, unless the seller can provide ELECTRONIC proof of delivery, like a tracked item would have, to paypal, you will automatically get your money back. Recorded delivery bits of paper mean nothing, it MUST be electronic... [as the paypal lot are lazy and do not want to do anything constructive]

You do not have to prove anything, the seller has to PROVE you got it.

If you sell anything on ebay, NEVER EVER use paypal.. ESPECIALLY if the buyer wants to collect the stuff. They will collect your stuff, go home, and then say it never arrived. You cannot prove you posted it. [you did not] paypal will give them theor money back and you will have lost the money AND the item...

john...

Pretty regular Ebay occurrence nowadays. Most listings are half arsed at best, obviously done in a rush or with no effort on a mobile so either no details or they are completely wrong. I bought a mitre saw and table/stand but when it turned up there was no table. The title said saw and stand, but there was a single line in the bottom of the listing somewhere that said stand not included. Part of the problem sometimes is Ebay seem to go out of their way to make it simple, but then over complicate the simple things and leave out lots of important options and then charge stupid amounts for doing obvious things, and disallow you to edit certain things for arbitrary reasons.

It's quite hard to find stuff you want or browse for bargains nowadays, it's all business selling and Chinese lettuced mis-categorised so the first 5 pages of any section are random irrelevant 99p Chinese junk. As a seller if you are not selling loads it is a PITA, and buyers expect you to be running it as a full time business. I used to sell loads of used/refurb electrical/security equipment on Ebay, not worth the hassle now, tend to just weigh it in instead (apart from MCB's, still collect those, had a sort through last night and must have 300+ assorted makes fron Stab-Lok and C50's to Chint MC's & RCBO's to KQO RCBO's and MTN MCB's).

So yeah, Ebay is sort of OK, but definitely not what it once was. Sometimes once you sell something it is hard to actually motivate yourself to put the effort in to actually send it for the pittance you make on the deal, especially as postage is so expensive if you are a low volume seller.

Mate just sold an empty bottle of whisky on eBay (sells quite a few of them) buyer has sent him an email complaining that it smells of whisky !!! WTGrape.

I wonder how that will go if he puts in a complaint to PayPal bearing in mind they tend to favour the buyer.

I gave up with ebay when I sold a faulty television, clearly described as faulty and under the "for parts or not working" category. The buyer complained it was faulty so returned it. I refunded his purchase price but not the postage. He complained to Paypal who took his postage from me and gave it back to him. Trying to explain it was sold as faulty made no difference so that was the final straw for me.

Never had trouble with buying on eBay, had trouble a couple of times with selling on it.

It is that heavily weighted towards the buyer being right, you're up the proverbial creek if the buyer is that way inclined to scam you. An there really isn't a whole lot to be done about it.

The only problems I’ve had is with sending stuff to Canada. Sent by tracked air freight, the parcel bounced between the airport and the customer. It boiled down to the Canadian carrier being lackadaisical, “couldn’t find the delivery address” it was a large shop, not difficult to find.

I love ebay, I buy all sorts of stuff from there. The other week I got some 12v LED flood lights, £5 each. well happy. I am waiting for a "electronic temperature control board to arrive" (as seen on "big clive") cost about £3
I used to spend loads on ebay but due to  the economic downturn I have little to spare but I have however splashed out on 2x 12v 10w led floods in warm white.

Like big Clive I'm curious to know if they are really 10w.
