Hi all

Hope you can throw some light on this

Customer has a 400a panel board which was installed but never used, he decided not to buy the machine in the end

He now has four smaller machines that will be sited two bays down in his factory

I have checked the loading on his new machines and this supply will be ample

But there is no distribution power in the bay he intends to use

So i will be disconnecting the board, pulling back the cable through the two bays and sending it down the bay, and re fitting the board there.

Would you do a minor works or eic for this

The cable length will not change

The installation method will not change

The existing cable is about 70 metres, and i will be re routing about 40 metres of it

Therefore i would not class this as a new installation

Maybe an alteration

Please correct me if you think i am wrong

Or should i do an eic to cover all aspects

Carl

I'd think EIC TBH , Always think Minor Works are for domestic use TBH . Anyway 400a sub-main is hardly a Minor Works . How old is PB ? Does it have MCCBs fitted ? I had trouble getting a Siemans MCCB for a PB last year .

An MWC will be sufficient.

However, if you then connect the machines.......

EIC. You're re-routing the cable. that makes it a new install IMO.It is debatable, but you can't be wrong with an EIC.
how is moving something a new install? what if someone asked you to move a socket, and you only had to take it off wall, move it using existing cable and reattach to wall. EIC for that?

Here is an extract from the notes relating to a MWC:

"The Minor Works Certificate is intended to be used for additions and alterations to an installation that do not extend to the provision of a new circuit. Examples include the addition of socket-outlets or lighting points to an existing circuit, the relocation of a light switch etc. This Certificate may also be used for the replacement of equipment such as accessories or luminaires, but not for the replacement of distribution boards or similar items. Appropriate inspection and testing, however, should always be carried out irrespective of the extent of the work undertaken."

To my mind this is an alteration to an existing circuit, insofar as it is being relocated. The DB is not being replaced, just relocated.

However, any circuits from the DB to the four machines could well be considered as new circuits.

they would be new circuits, in which case would need EIC. so may aswell issue one EIC for everything rather than EIC for new circuits and MWC for relocation of board

Thanks for all your answers

I will go with EIC to cover myself

Also the panel board is current, its a square d mp series which takes the cnae range of mccbs, so these are readily available

There are no outgoing circuits or mccbs, just a main switch

The machines will be installed in the new year, and eic will be completed for that, it was just the board move that i needed to double check, as i am doing this on the 5th and 6th of December

Thanks once again

Carl
