just finished installing two showers for a customer, need to go back and give eic tomorrow

I have put two showers on a 2way rcd consumer unit as the existing consumer unit is still re-wirable fuses and they do not want me to change it.

The property has no gas/water bondings.

The work i have done all complies, but what should i be putting on the eic when it asks about main bonds?

There is also no supplimentry bondings in the bathrooms were i have put the showers, am i required to put this in or am i right in thinking that as my install complies and is on a sererate cu then i can leave all the rest as is.

cheers

How can your work comply if there are no protective earth bonding conductors. You are supposed to ensure that these are up to standard before you carry out any alterations or additions

you will need to ensure there is either supp. bonding in the bathrooms or rcd the lights aswell as shower

main bonding to gas/water should be done before work started

if of course the customer didnt want his floor boards ripped up then he could sign a carefully worded letter stating that he has been advised of the dangers but decides not to have it done

I agree main bonding should be done, and the supplementary bonding in the bathrooms should be at least tested for any presence or lack of.

I did a similar job where the customer refused to have a cu change, I told them as part of the job the main bonding had to be upgraded, they accepted this, and I just henley boxed the tails and upgraded the bonding, new cu for the shower, fan and light job done all conforms and no comebacks on the exsisting installation.

Think this may be the best way, i cannot force them to have bondings done

This does not negate your duty of care - if you install any new circuits you MUST upgrade the bonding, the customer has no choice if you are doing the installation work!

But then if they won't allow you to upgrade them then you shouldn't be carrying out the work....

One of the first reg's in BRB says that what you connect up to must be safe and able to take the additional load... If you have no PEB's or supp bonding (if not all bathroom circuits RCD) then it is NOT SAFE!!!

well i have just been on the phone to them and they have agreed to have them thrown in tomorrow, happy days :p

Well done mate at least you have some back up

Just tell them the boys are behind you!

Apologies Godfather I dont mean your boys!

Gulp!!!

Marvelous,,,Glad to hear that,,, but it should have been the first thing you did..
It was, but after non stop moaning they decided after i had installed the shower that they was not willing to pay for the bondings, which then leaves you in a difficult situation as you can understand!!

For future reference try and include any upgrading of the bonding in the original quote.

cheers, quite different from my ones, might nick a few ideas from there.
