One of the people across the road from me asked me to come and have a look at their electic supply. They had, had a plumber come to fit a new electric shower, but miracle of miracles, the plumber had a test, and said that "your earthing is courgetteed mate" and declined to fit the shower..
So, i go and have a look..
Same cutout as me, same PILCSWA service cable, complete with the same BS951 clamp we all know the DNO fitted, connected to the lead cable sheath and then onto the MET.
I tested Ze and it was miles too high, cannot remember what now, but MILES too high, BUT, the DNO thought they were comical, and having been there before me and discovered the same thing had just stuck a "TT" sticker on the cutout. No telling the customer that he needed and earth rod, or additional protection by RCD's or anything like that mind you, just stuck on a sticker and cleared off
I told them to tell the DNO to get courgetteed, and that it was TNS and i suggest they come and maintain it.
They [the DNO] tried to tell the punter it was TT and the supply to that house had always been TT. I told them to ring them up, tell them to get courgetteed, and to explain how it is, that in a street of 150 houses, all built at the same time, and all on TNS, that their one, was magically TT'ed instead???
Sure enough the DNO turned up and "converted" it to TNCS. No digging up the street mind, just stick the main earth conductor in the neutral block and away you go!! Nice new sticker, and everyone is happy...
