hi

this problem has been ongoing for maybe 10 years since i moved in.  im only bothered now because both my cooker and washing machine packed up within a few weeks of ewach other, ive been using LED bulbs which do not blow up.

my problem is everything in my house keeps breaking.  tugsten or halogen light bulbs last on avarage a week and bulbs in fridges and microwaves keep breaking and new toaster every year etc .  more recently the motor and cuircut board in my wasking machine packed up at the same time which was luckily in waranty.  the washing machine repair guy was quite surprised because "the main boards in these things never break"

What i did so far

some guy from the electric board came out and tested the voltage to my house which was 240V and he tested the earth going out which was very low which is good so im guessing the problem must be internal

i had a full electric test only 18 months ago they tested all the rings on the main and earth tested everything.  they had to replace one neatral wire on one of the rings but other that that they said the house was tip top

after speaking to the electric guy who came out from the electric board im sure it must be some kind of earthing fault causing a powersurge

anyone have any ideas about what might the problem be and how to solve it?

Generally for this type of issue in commercial / industrial we usually put a power analyser on the installation and record various parameters over a week, Then download the results onto a laptop and have a good butchers.

For a domestic situation this could be a little costly so its hard to simply say look at this or that, however as a starter as its not limited to specific items I would look at your voltage incoming and just keep checking it, it does vary over time. Also things like a street full of solar panels around you could be increasing the voltage on sunny days so worth testing when the sun is out etc etc.

thanks for reply

i will check with the neighbours to see if they have problems with light bulbs fusing etc because im guessing they would have the same issue as me.

i didnt mention earlier that i get my electricity from an overhead cable which comes from my neighbours house and then continues to the house the other side of me

this is possibly 1 instance where  a Voltage Optimiser may come in useful, it should help protect your entire property from voltage spikes. It may even help reduce your leccy bills, but I wouldn't take much notice of the sales blurb.

Did the guy from the leccy board leave monitoring in place for a week?

Metal oxide varistors and/or transorbs = surge suppressors, it’s cheaper to build your own unit. The manufactured units are way over priced.

Living in a moorlands village I got peed off with the computer, fax machine, phone, etc blowing up so did something about it.
