Me too ...last chance saloon 15th May , after that date they are using new techniques :-

1) Information from trade bodies and suppliers.

2) Anonymous tip offs from the Evasion Hotline.

but, I only went SE again in Jan, so they have decided to send me out self assessment forms for year ending 2011 as well as 2012......

Stepps, the 2011 tax year ends on 6 April 2012 . I think thats what thats about . The last 3 months of tax year 2011/2012 you were SE .

Didn't they used to wait until you had completed a 12month period before the first tax return....

specs, its all a confusion when I first came back to the UK, I got a UTR number, the last time I worked in the UK it was SC60 !!!!

after a few months I needed a 'proper' job to get a credit score for a mortgage, nobody told me you needed to rescind your UTR number, anyway, after 2 years of p60 tax returns they sent me a letter saying I didnt need to return a self assessement again, now I have went SE again they have told me I have a

Trouble is Steps they don't know there bottom from there elbow. At the moment they are saying I owe tax from 5 years ago my accountant says I don't owe it. Its now getting to the stage where they are putting it in hands of debt collection agency. I don't owe it so am not going to pay it simple.

Surely ALL they are doing is sending the "invite" to ANYONE who listed electrician or something similar as their occupation on last years self assesment.

And yes I had my final invite this week as well.

They make me want to puke! They need to get their own house in order before gunning after trades. It was only on the news a couple of nights ago about Govt departments staff abusing tax loopholes themselves and costing the treasury millions in lost tax.
