Moose,

The DSEAR zoning will come from your DSEAR assessment, basically, if you were a contractor doign this then you would have to prove competence in hazardous areas, generally taken as the COMPEX exam and relevant experience.

Perhaps your competent person doing the DSEAR zoning can advise on the atmosphere states expected at various locations, from this you can then select appropriate equipment.

There are basically 4 zones.

Zone 0

A place in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a

mixture with air of dangerous substances in the form of gas,

vapour or mist is present continuously or for long periods or

frequently.

Zone 1

A place in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a

mixture with air of dangerous substances in the form of gas,

vapour or mist is likely to occur in normal operation occasionally.

Zone 2

A place in which an explosive atmosphere consisting of a

mixture with air of dangerous substances in the form of gas,

vapour or mist is not likely to occur in normal operation but, if it

does occur, will persist for a short period only.

Then out of zones, i.e. 7671 only applies.

Not had any dealings with paint boothes but had dealings with haz areas and CompEx. So I am trying to understand what these boothes are like. Do you need to install kit into the booth or only outside it? Does the manufacturer give any guidance as to zone and gas group in the booth? Is there any likelyhood of a gas release externally to the booth.

Don't know if I can give you any pointers once I understand your situation a bit better.
